Since its closure in 2021, the former Berlin-Tegel Airport has been transformed into a state-of-the-art, green urban district for science and business, affordable housing, and nature-based recreation. The transformation of the nearly 500-hectare site is one of the largest and most ambitious urban development projects in Europe.
Designed by Meinhard von Gerkan, Volkwin Marg, and Klaus Nickels (gmp) and built between 1969 and 1975, the airport's building complex is a listed historical monument and has long been considered an architectural icon. The striking hexagonal terminal is currently being converted into a university campus and will form the scientific heart of the Urban Tech Republic – a research and industrial park where technological solutions for the cities of tomorrow will be researched, developed, tested, and produced.
In the run-up to further building renovations and corresponding with the construction work, available areas and buildings can be used temporarily for other purposes: for example, for suitable film shoots and events.
Since the usage possibilities change regularly during the construction process, each request is reviewed individually.
We look forward to hearing from you!
